I could speak for hours on the various flaws of the Harry Potter film franchise and why it just doesn’t cut it for me, from the criminal omission of Dumbledore’s back story to the distressing misuse of Gary Oldman’s talent, or even how the mentions of the eponymous enigma of The Half Blood Prince, which constitutes the subject of this video dissertation, can be counted on one hand.

I won’t though. Here then is a detailed summary of my issues with these films and why I think they’re essentially high-budget screensavers using the sixth instalment of the series as my main argument.

This is so perfect it almost hurts. I enjoy the movies because they allow me to see the people and places I love so dearly…if not really the way I imagined them. Also Tom Felton does look very nice in a suit.

But as soon as I start to actually think about them everything falls apart, because as storytelling devices they suck. They help me to enjoy the books more, because they make me appreciate the books not only for being the fantastic things they are, but also for being everything the movies are not.

Except for DH part 2. That thing was an absolute travesty and thinking about it still pisses me the fuck off.

He could not be any more right! Totally on point and addresses the questions I have always asked about Harry and Ginny’s awkward relationship in the movie, along with Dumbledore. Love him!
